University of Chester – Chapel

The University of Chester celebrated its 175th anniversary providing education this year. Originally, the first college students attended services at the nearby cathedral, but the Rev Arthur Rigg, principal at the time, believed a dedicated college chapel, based at the original college campus, where all students could assemble, was needed. The students at the collage fundraised, dug the foundations, carved the stonework and chiselled the interior woodwork of the college chapel until it was finally completed in 1847 making the chapel its self 168 years old.
